Shopping for a Dinner Party Math’s Task

In Maths we are learning about subtraction. We joined up with our Maths buddies 3/4F, and completed a fun Maths’ task. Our task was to plan a dinner party with 6 people. We needed to provide drinks, appetizers, a main course meal and desserts for all 6 people. We only had $60 to spend on all of the food and drinks. We went shopping in a Safeway magazine to help us plan. We chose our menu and then we needed to add up all of the costs and find out what our change would be from $60. Then we presented our menu and costs to the class. What did you think about this activity? What was easy or difficult about this activity?

    Dear Miss Murphy,

The maths task was fun and hard at the same time.
The fun part was looking for food for the dinner party and the hard part was adding how much we spent and how much change we got.
Hope we get to do it again.

    Dear 3/4M,
The menu looks so good, but too bad it’s paper. It was really easy yet it was kind of hard because of the prices and the rounding. I hope we do it again.
